Dale’s Smoothie

Trev and I recently made a trip up to Vancouver, BC and stayed in an AirBnb with Dale and Barb, a delightful older couple. They were so warm and welcoming and treated us just like family.

On Sunday morning, we all sat down for breakfast together and Dale made us the most delicious smoothie. I kid you not, this was the best smoothie I’ve ever tasted. Little did we know, we were not the first guests to be woo-ed by Dale’s smoothie. Countless other guests before us had commented on how wonderful Barb and Dale were AND without fail, mentioned the infamous smoothie.

So I though it’d only be appropriate to share the wealth and give you all a taste of this healthy, fruity summertime treat. I’m naming this smoothie after Dale since he is, after all, the inspiration behind it. I should note, he never actually disclosed his secret recipe so the ratio of ingredients below has been a work of my own. Dale’s original smoothie had a bit of Plain Greek yogurt thrown in but I’ve modified it since becoming a vegan.

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 1/2 cup frozen strawberries
  • 1/2 blueberries
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1/2 cup water (optional, if needed)
  • 1 tbs. chia seeds
  • 1 tbs. flax seed

Blend all together and you’re done! Now how easy is that? I like to add coconut flakes and hemp seeds on top and create a smoothie bowl if the base is thick enough.

I also love using frozen fruit in my smoothies to get that thick, milkshake-like consitency. You can use fresh fruit as well but just know you’ll have to add some ice too.

Throw in some kale or spinach if you’re feeling like you need some extra greens. I promise you, it blends so well, you won’t even know you’re drinking vegetables! It’s the easiest and most discreet way to get your veggies in.

I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I do! Just remember – there really is no wrong way to make a smoothie 🙂
